Lira and Elian sound like mortal enemies – a prince-killer and a siren-killer – but what makes them so very enjoyable is that they are actually careful mirror reflections of each other. Elian, our hero, is the crown prince of a wealthy kingdom where everything glitters gold – however, he is afflicted with wanderlust and prefers sailing and killing sirens to royal occupations. Lira, our heroine, is the siren daughter of the Sea Queen and is renowned as the Prince’s Bane, for she always takes the hearts of princes. To Kill A Kingdom brings back the idea of sirens luring sailors to their deaths, and from this concept we are brought to our two protagonists. ![]() To Kill A Kingdom is a very solid standalone debut and that should be praised.) (On a side note: I wish An Enchantment of Ravens, which was a standalone debut from last year that fell short for me, managed as well as To Kill A Kingdom. Despite being heavily uninspired to read and taking a break about 50% into the book, I did really enjoy it! It was a very solid read and a good debut, as well as a strong standalone. I’ve been in a bit of a slump over the past few weeks by large, I haven’t read much and I’ve tended to read in spurts that come and go. She promises to help him find the key to destroying all of sirenkind for good-But can he trust her? And just how many deals will Elian have to barter to eliminate mankind’s greatest enemy? When he rescues a drowning woman in the ocean, she’s more than what she appears. Hunting sirens is more than an unsavory hobby-it’s his calling.
